Mahjong Solitaire is a special kind of solitaire game which uses Mahjong tiles instead of cards. This game is also known as Shanghai Solitaire. Standard Mahjong Solitaire uses 144 tiles. At the beginning of the game tiles are arranged in a special order. Object of the game is to remove free tiles in pairs. A tile is called free or exposed if it can be moved left or right without disturbing any other tiles. Tiles are arranged face upwards in a four layer grid. So you have to remove the top free tiles first to play with bottom tiles. Then game is finished when you clear all the tiles and make the grid empoty or when there is no free tiles availalbe to play. In the second case you loose the game and you can retry it.

Mahjong Solitaire or Shanghai Solitaire are played with genuine tiles with wooden frames and as a computer solitaire game. Today many computer implementations of Mahjong Solitaire are available from different shareware vendors. These games add many new features to standard Mahjong Game like undo, redo, backgroud color selection, different tile layout, optional time limit, hints, cheats, replay etc. Also some vendors offers many new variations of Standard Mahjong Solitaire game with new game layouts.

Mahjong Solitaire can be played as a single player solitaire game or you can play it with a partner like a multi plater game.
