Solitaire or Patience Card Game is a single player card game. In British english it is called patience games and in American english it is called Solitaire Game. These games are played with a set of cards dealing from a shuffles deck or pack.

Solitaire Card Decks and Suits

Cards Deck or Pack of Cards

A Solitaire game is played with a pack of cards or normally called Decks. All cards in the pack must have same shape and size. A standard deck contains 52 cards. Each card has two sides. Face and Back. Back normally contains a picture and is same for all cards. Face is unique for each cards and this is the factor deciding type and nature of the card.

Card Types

Cards are of four types. Spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. Each can be distinguished with its symbol.

Suit

A suit contains 13 cards. Thease cards are Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen and King. This set of cards is called a suit. Normally a standard deck or pack contains one suit from each card type. i.e one suit of Spades, one suit of hearts, one suit of diamonds and one suit of clubs.

A game may contain any number of decks. Single deck and double deck games are more popular. Some pc games also contains stripped deck games contains only 26 cards or half deck. A double deck game is with of 104 cards i.e two suits from each game type.

Single Suit and Double Suit Games

Normally a deck contains four decks but single suit games are with only one type of games. for eg a single suit game with 52 cards contains four suits of spades. i.e stipped spades from four decks. A double suit game contains cards of two types. i.e a double deck game with 52 cards may contain 2 suits of spades and 2 suits of hearts. ie stripped spades and hearts from 2 decks.
